Our local recycling center
In line with international environmental efforts, some fellow Motswana that were concerned about the state of Gaborone’s environment establishes a non-government funded ecological park in 1991T. The park is better known by its Setswana name somarelang tikologo. To this day, the same park is still amid at promoting and educating the public about environmental protection. The park is funded by Kgalagadi beverages trust and is in partnership with students without borders and the world university service of Canada.
As well as an onsite recycling center that is opened to the public from 6 am to 6 pm the park also offers an eco-café, organic community garden which main purpose is to educate the public on how to grow an organic garden with no pesticides or artificial fertilizers. The park uses natrual homemade chicken manure and chili powder to maintain their garden, the chicken manure fertilizes the soil and the chill powder scares away any pests. the park also has a playground and a green shop where volunteers help sell products made from recycled materials, the shop is also aimed at encouraging the unemployed public to sell products from recycled materials. The park is located on plot 3491 along Khama cress Gaborone Botswana. If the park is out of your reach and you have kids either at Westwood or Northside they also have lovely recycling areas available for use by parents.
